Kindergarten Registration 2019-2020

Online Kindergarten Registration for the 2019-2020 school year will take place from 9:00am Wednesday, May 9 until 9:00pm Thursday, May 10. (Please note this registration is for children who will attend Kinderstart in the upcoming 2018-2019 school year and Kindergarten in the 2019-2020 school year. Children registered in Kinderstart will automatically be registered to attend Kindergarten in September 2019).  Children must be five years of age on or before December 31, 2019 in order to register.

You will need the following in order to complete an online application:

  • MCP number including expiration date;
  • An email address in order to receive confirmation of receipt of your application;
  • Contact phone number and an emergency contact phone number; and,
  • An Internet-ready device

NOTE: To complete the full registration process, proof of address and confirmation of MCP number must be provided in person at our school on or before May 31, 2018.

Grade 2 & 3 Spring Concert

The grade 2 & 3 Spring concert is taking place on Thursday, April 26 at 7:00pm.  Information regarding concert ticket sales is going home with students today (April 16).  Please use the envelope provided to purchase your tickets.  The deadline to purchase your allotted four tickets is Friday, April 20.  All remaining tickets will go on sale on Monday, April 23. Tickets must be purchased in advance; they will not be sold at the door.

All monies raised from our Spring concert ticket sales will be donated to the School Lunch Radiothon also taking place on April 26.

May Lunch Orders

May SLA menus are now available online at  Students were given paper copies of the menu to bring home today.  The deadline to submit lunch orders for May month is Tuesday, April 17.  SLA does not accept late orders.

Reminders when placing your lunch orders for May month that there is a PD day on Friday, May 11 and Kindergarten parents only make note of the Kinderstart session on Friday, May 4.  Please do not order lunch on this/these days.

Inside Out for Autism

On Friday, April 13 we will participate in Inside Out day. Students and staff are encouraged to support the Austism Society by donating a loonie or toonie and showing their awareness, understanding and acceptance by wearing their shirt inside out on that day.  Thank you to our grade 6 leadership group who have taken the lead in promoting this worthwhile cause at CHE.

National Volunteer Week

National Volunteer Week is April 15 – 21, 2018. A big thank you goes out to all our school volunteers this year! We plan on recognizing our fantastic volunteers on Wednesday, April 18 at 9:00am with some student performances and a reception. Volunteers assist schools by coaching sport teams, helping out it the kiss & ride, sitting on school council, helping out in the library and much more.  If you volunteered at our school in any way this year we hope to see you there.

School Lunch Association Radiothon

The School Lunch Association is holding their 1st Annual Radiothon on Thursday, April 26 from 10:00am to 3:00pm at the Avalon Mall.  Cowan Heights Elementary is one of the many schools who avail of the hot lunch program provided by SLA. CHE will show our support by donating all money collected through our Spring concert ticket sales this year.

If you are not purchasing a ticket to the Spring concert but would still like to make a donation, please send it along to the office on or before April 25 and we will include it with our donation from concert ticket sales.  Please ensure you send it along in a envelope clearly marked ‘School Lunch Radiothon’.   In addition, the School Lunch Association is registered charity, so you can donate any time at

Talk to Your School Counsellor

The Newfoundland and Labrador Counsellors’ and Psychologists’ Association has recently launched an interactive poster called, Talk to Your School Counsellor. Each heading on the poster provides a link to relevant information pertaining to the subject.
